President general of the revered Niger Delta Socio Cultural Group under the aegis of Delta Ijaw Youth Movement for Political Advancement (DIYMPA), Amb. John Dekawei has congratulated the historic and first ever Ijaw Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon Smart Asekutu on his sweeping victory at the just concluded council polls in Delta State.
Amb. John Dekawei while congratulating the Warri North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Smart on his victory had appreciated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its notable leaders for ceding the position to the Ijaws of Egbema Kingdom in order to balance the age long political imbalance within the past 27 years.
The renowned philanthropist issued the congratulatory message to newsmen in Abuja earlier today via a statement he personally signed.
While rejoicing over the emergence of Hon. Smart Asekutu first as PDP flag bearer, his victory during the March 6th poll and his subsequent inauguration as Chairman of Warri North at Asaba, capital of Delta State.
The young and multiple award winning humanitarian, John Dekawei had particularly tasked Hon. Smart Asekutu to know that the Ijaws of Egbema Kingdom in Warri North had suffered too much political derivations before his emergence, adding that it took 27 years before the Ijaws are now having their turn.
He noted that due to the historic nature behind his emergence, he must deliver effective leadership by being fair to all ethnic groups in Warri North by ruling with all sense of fairness to both the Itsekiris and Ijaws in the Local Government.
Dekawei charged Hon. Smart to go the extra miles in ensuring that he leaves behind lasting legacies that will stand the test of time so that any Ijaw man that would be aspiring to occupy the office will not have any setback in terms of leadership, adding that Smart should use his tenure to deliver uncommon leadership marked with progress.
It would be recalled that Amb. John Dekawei, a notable pen gladiator, an activist and an advocate of good governance had severally written to the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the Warri North PDP leadership to consider the Ijaws with the chairmanship position come 2021 via The Liberator Newspapers Worldwide and other mediums.
The philanthropist asserted that a lot of well meaning Ijaws from different parts of the state agitated for the Egbemas to have the chairman this time around, stressing that he is excited because his agitation has given birth to a positive result at the end, noting that he is grateful to the Lord Almighty and all those that made it a reality.
John Dekawei said Hon. Smart Asekutu should see himself as a special and historical Chairman as much is expected of him considering the fact that Egbema Ijaws have suffered for too long in terms of political subjugation and lack of development in the communities.
Amb. John Dekawei is the chairman cum founder of the John Dekawei Foundation (JDF), a Non Governmental Organisation he has used in transforming the lives of many across the globe.
