Gbaraun Grammar School, Atuwatse Secondary School Emerges Winners Of Sheriff Mulade Peace And Unity Quiz & Essay Competition 2021

Atuwatse Secondary School and Ogbe-Ijoh Grammar School in Warri South and Warri South-West local government areas of Delta State, respectively, have emerged as winners in the 5th edition of the Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade’s Quiz and Essay competitions.

The competition which had three participating schools each from three LGAs of Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West held at the Hussey College Secondary School in Warri, on Wednesday 3 March 2021.

Schools that participated from Warri North are Alema Model College, and Oloduwa Secondary School, with Ogbinbiri Secondary School, absent. From Warri South, Atuwatse Secondary School, Erejuwa Grammar School, and Obodo Secondary School; while for Warri South-West, Kokodiagbene Secondary School, Gbaraun Grammar School, and Ogbe-Ijoh Grammar School.

In the Quiz competition for Junior Secondary (JS) 1–3 which featured questions from Mathematics, English Language, National Values, Christian Religious Knowledge, and Basic Science & Technology, Atuwatse Secondary School (Warri South) scored a total of 30 marks to clinch the 1st prize of N100,000.00k, followed by Erejuwa Grammar School (Warri South) and Ogbe-Ijoh Grammar School (Warri South-West) with scores of 26 and 24 marks respectively, to clinch the 2nd and 3rd prizes of N70,000.00k and N50,000.00k.

In the Essay competition for Senior Secondary (SS) 1–3, Joel Success from Gbaraun Grammar School Oporoza (Warri South-West) emerged winner to clinch the 1st prize of N50,000.00k. Esede David from Alema Secondary School (Warri North) and Eyinsan Tsaye from Atuwatse Secondary School (Warri South) emerged as 2nd and 3rd prize winners respectively, of N30,000.00k and N20,000.00k.

In addition, Miss Soyinka Funmi from Erejuwa Grammar School, emerged as the Most Valuable Student by answering all questions correctly in the course of the Quiz competition, entitling her to a scholarship from the convener of the competition, Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade.

Other consolation prizes given out include school bags, mathematical sets, and note books which were distributed to students that participated in the competition.

The special guest of honour at the event is the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Delta State, Chief Patrick Ukah. Those in attendance include the Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs), Prince T. C. Alekwe (Warri South), Mrs. M. A. Omagbemi (Warri South-West) and Miss Ohwofadjeke E. (Warri North); Dr. Christy Okerie and Mr. Eze Ariwojo both served as Panel of Judges. Others are teachers from the participating schools, staffs of CEPEJ, observers and media houses.

The Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade Quiz & Essay Competition is an annual Rural/Riverine Secondary School Project that is sponsored by the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) also known as Africa 4 Peace Center, with head office at Osubi, Delta State.
