The Ijaw People’s Development initiative, IPDI, renowned for its gitation towards the development of the Niger Delta has thrown its weight behind the call made by Chief Sheriff Mulade for the upgrade of the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu to state University.
In a statement by the acting spokesman of the group, Comrade Ezekiel Kagbala made the statement in reaction to the executive bill sent to the State House of Assembly by Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, seeking legislative backing for the upgrade of the three institutions to degree-awarding Universities.
Kagbala noted that the upgrade of the College of Education, Agbor, Anwai the campus of the Delta State University and the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro to a full-fledged Universities remained commendable but un-holistic devoid of equitable development in Delta State.
He urged the five State House of Assembly Legislators from Ijaw constituencies to ensure that a State-owned degree-awarding tertiary institution is also located in Ijaw land.
The group also warned Fred Latimor, urging him to desist from attacking any Ijaw leader who is not Governor Okowa’s appointee.
He further added ” A call for the development of Ijaw Nation is the right of every honest Ijaw person and Sheriff Mulade is truly a development advocate in Niger Delta who can not afford to ignore sensitive issues of Developments for his people”.
