A foremost Niger Delta Youth Leader and Community Development Activist, Comrade Pina Ogrenfa. Has on Tuesday the 12th January, 2020. Raised an alarm over what he describes as the unsafe and dilapidated condition of Oporoza, Tebujor and Opuede-Bubor community jetties in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. Which he said are at the verge of collapsing.

Comrade Ogrenfa, who is the Youth Organizing Secretary of Oporoza Community. While speaking to a senior correspond of Coastal Times. Expressed his worries over the appalling condition of the jetties in the said communities.

The Activist highlighted that, the present state of the jetties is indeed worrisome. As they are nothing but dead traps as they stand. Leaving users at a great risk.

Therefore, he called on the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation, EGCDF, the Warri South West Local Government Council, Delta State Government and other intervention agencies. To come to the aid of the people of the communities. In urgently taking steps to either renovate or construct new jetties in the communities.

In his words:

“I Comrade Pina Ogrenfa, the Youth Organizing Secretary of Oporoza community. Wish to use this medium to raise alarm, over the rapidly decaying and almost collapsing condition of the jetties in both Oporoza Community, Tebujor Community and Opuede-Bubor Community, in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The need for me to raise this timely alarm became expedient, as the jetties which are the only avenue for travellers in the communities to access boats. Has become nothing but dead traps as they stand. Leaving users at great risk.

It is indeed a very disturbing thing to see that, communities which contributes immensely to the economic growth of Delta State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Has to pass through such infrastructural decay.

It is on this premise, I am using this avenue to call on the Egbema Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation ( EGCDF ), The Warri South West Local Government Council, Delta State Government and other intervention agencies. To quickly come to the aid of the people of the communities, in fixing up the jetties. So as to avoid any unforeseen circumstances.

I as well, use this medium to appeal to users and owners of heavy duty machines using the jetties, to stop using such machines on the jetties. As this also contributes greatly to the unsafe condition of the jetties.

I also call on all those harbouring badges in the jetties to stop doing so. As that also contributes to the present unsafe state of the jetties.

Conclusively, I enjoin the executives of the communities, to immediately take steps that will put the jetties in good shape. So as to ensure the safety of both the people of the communities and strangers using the Jetties “.
