DELTA 2021: Face-Off In PDP Deepens As Members Threaten Defection Over Automatic Ticket For Burutu LGA Chairman

Coastal News

ASABA__________Tension hightened in PDP as face-off among the party chairmanship, councilorship aspirants and the party leadership deepened over what they described as evil on the planned automatic ticket for the incumbent Burutu LGA chairman and attempt imposition of preferred councilorship candidates in various wards in the LGA.

The aggrieved chairmanship and councilorship aspirants in the LGA had called on his Excellency senator Ifeanyi Okowa (PhD) to prevailed on the state party chairman, Barr Kingsley Esisio over alleged attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

Our investigation showed that it was the turn of Burutu North constituency l to produce the next council chairman in the LGA as regards the existing single term rotational arrangement in the LGA.

Our correspondent further learnt that there may be mass defection in the party as more aggrieved chairmanship, councilorship aspirants and concerned members of the party declared showdown with the party leadership.

It was revealed that there had not been any time in the history of Burutu where an incumbent chairman was given automatic ticket to rule second term in the council.

It was gathered that the incumbent chairman is from Burutu South and there is no point of shifting power to the Burutu South based on the single term rotational arrangement in the LGA.

In an interview with some members of the party who pleaded not to be mentioned in print told our reporter that there would be mass defection in the party to All Progressives Congress, APC in the LGA in the coming days, except there is a level play ground for all aspirants in the LGA.

The planned defection was coupled with scores of manipulations in the ongoing councilorship primaries in the LGA by alleged power drunked politicians in some wards.

Though the party leadership, Barr. Kingsley Esisio, through the party secretary had debunked the rumoured automatic ticket for 16 incumbent LGA chairmen in the state but it was seen as a trick in some quarters and that the actual plan for the automatic ticket for 16 LGA chairmen in the state had not changed.

The aggrieved members of PDP said they would defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC,if the party failed to conduct free, fair and credible primaries in the LGA and that they would ensure PDP been defeated in the forthcoming LGA Polls.
