Following the recent retrenchment of over 50 indigenous workers from Oil rich Ogulagha community in Ogulagha Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State which has sparked unprecedented tension and protest from the workers in Forcados Terminal, Amb. John Dekawei has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, Commissioner ministry of Oil and Gas, Delta State, Prince Emman Amgbaduba and other relevant agencies to quickly wade into the matter before it dovetailed to something else.

Amb. John Dekawei in a powerful press statement issued to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, described the action of SPDC against the indigenous workers as a glaring case of oppression.

The renowned global advocate of good governance frowned at the treatment meted out on the people of Ogulagha Kingdom, adding that it is strange, unheard of and totally unacceptable.

According to him, the people of Ogulagha community deserves the best treatment from both SPDC, Federal Government, State Government, relevant agencies as well as the local government, stressing that the people needs to be pampered from all quarters being a people that feeds the nation through the proceeds of oil.

He particularly called on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the International community to be aware of what is happening in Ogulagha community where indigenes of the oil bearing commuity is being sacked while foreigners and people from other regions remains untouched.

Speaking further, Dekawei said if it where to be a case of pipeline vandalism in the region, the Federal Government of Nigeria would have swiftly deployed military men to invade the community and even burn down nearby defenceless villages, regretting that the Federal Government of Nigeria and other agencies have continued to remain adamant and insensitive towards the plight of the people.

While addressing SPDC, Amb. John Dekawei had appealed to the Shell Petroleum Development Company as a multinational oil giant to maintain their integrity by not embracing oppressive tendencies, promising that he will continue to speak for the oppressed as the success of evil is when the good ones seat’s without doing anything about it.

He stressed that community workers have always been treated with alleged manipulations from the companies all over the Niger Delta region, arguing that whatever that the indigenous workers were receiving as a payment was nothing but a crumb compared to what the community produces on a daily basis, emphasising that sacking them is a wrong move and will be resisted to the later.

However, the young social crusader had called on the top management of SPDC to quickly akin to the demands of the Ogulagha community by reinstating all allegedly sacked workers with immediate payment of their pending arrears.

Dekawei said the Federal Government of Nigeria and its agencies, Delta State Government and relevant stakeholders must quickly correct the anomaly before it degenerate into what may be difficult to curtail.

He continued that Niger Deltans have suffered enough as the oil produced from their soil instead of making life better for them is fast becoming a curse to the people, noting that the Federal Government of Nigeria and SPDC must not only be interested in the free flow of oil in the communities as they should also carter for the people.

Amb. John Dekawei is President general of the revered Niger Delta Socio Cultural group under the aegis of Delta Ijaw Youth Movement for Political Advancement (DIYMPA), raising the banner of good governance in Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

Meanwhile, It would be recalled that Amb. John Dekawei is the founder and chairman of the John Dekawei Foundation (JDF), a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) he has used in transforming the lives of many across the World.
