Soldier gunned down by police officer in Delta Community_Coastal Times

DELTA, Nigeria – A policeman on Wednesday reportedly shot dead a soldier over disagreements between the sister agencies at a drinking spot in Bomadi Town in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

Trouble started when Policemen on routine patrol met three soldiers at a drinking parlour, an argument ensued and one of the soldiers slapped one of the policemen and attempted to take his rifles.

Reports say the policeman who had already rocked his gun, unfortunately, pulled the trigger and shot the soldier who died on the spot.

The incident caused serious tension in the area as many customers at the drinking spot scampered for safety.

Commenting on the matter, Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Hon. William Angadi on Wednesday appealed to sister security agencies to exercise restraint and allow the government to resolve the matter.

When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya in a telephone chat with Our Correspondent confirmed the report saying, “We are on that one. We are on it.”

On his part, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz also confirmed the report.

He said the leadership of security agencies has intervened in the matter just as an investigation is ongoing to unravel the true cause of the killing.

Asked, if there will be retaliation by soldiers, he said, ” There will be no need for that both of them are Nigerian Security forces and the government will investigate and carry out a punishment on the guilty party”
