BURUTU___________Celebration in the air, as Yokiri community, elects new executives for the continuous administration of the community.
Yokiri federated community, which is a sister community to Sokebolou community in Ogulagha kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. On Monday the 23rd of December 2019, conducted general election for the change of the existing executives of the community.
The election had two candidates contesting for the position of the chairman. Which were; Engr. Moses Ibilou and Mr. Jeremiah Ashaiya. With Engr. Moses Ibilou emerging as the winner.
Engr. Ibilou who had contested the position of the chairman of the community for two consecutive times, then in 2014, and 2016, decided to give it another short. Making it the third time he is contesting for the position, due to his zeal to lead his community into greater height.
As soon as the election started, the people of the community trooped out in their numbers, to vote and also cheer up their choice candidates. The election was conducted in a delegate form, with a total of 30 accredited voters.
Immediately after the voting process was concluded, the electoral committee counted the total number of votes cast, so as to distinguish the winners in the election.
After the counting of the votes, the chairman of the electoral committee announced the result, with Engr. Moses Ibilou scoring a total of 18 votes, while Mr. Jeremiah Ashaiya scored a total of 9 votes, with 3 votes being void. Thereby making Engr. Moses Ibilou the winner of the chairmanship position in the election.
While the winners were in a mode of celebration, our correspondent from COASTALTIME REPORT NEWS, walked up to the chairman elect, Engr. Moses Ibilou to hear from him, how he is feeling about the whole thing, haven contested for the position in two different occasions before now.
In his response, Engr. Ibilou stated that, his passion and patriotism for his community is one that cannot be overemphasized. Which is evident in his consistency in contesting the elections in the community over the years, in order for him to contribute his quota in the development of the community.
Engr. Ibilou therefore, showered praises to God Almighty for making his ambition a reality. And then thanked the good people of Yokiri federated community, for seeing him worthy of the leadership of the community.
He thanked the entire women, youths and the elders of Yokiri federated community, for the rare privilege given to him to pilot the affairs of the community. And for standing by him throughout the process.
He therefore, gave the people of the community a firm assurance that, he will do his best in ensuring that the deserved development of the community is attracted to the community.
Engr. Ibilou further promised that he will work closely with the women, youths and elders in the community, in his move to attract more development to the community. He then stated that, his government will be a all inclusive one, as no man is an island of knowledge or wisdom.
Engr. Ibilou also admonished his fellow contestants who could not scale through the election, not to give up in their vision for a better Yokiri, as there was no loser in the election. He therefore, called on them to work closely with him and his executives for the common interest of the community.
